2018 World U20 Championships Gold medal winner Hima Das
* Hima Das was born at Kandhulimari village, near the town of Dhing in the state of Assam on 9th January 2000. * She attended the Dhing Public high School and was initially interested in playing football and she played football with the boys at her school and had always wanted to pursue a career in football. * But, she did not see any prospects for herself in women's football in India. So upon advice from a school physical education teacher - Shamsul Hoque, she changed her profession and interest to sprint running. * On 12 July 2018, Hima Das won her first gold medal for 400 meters at the World U-20 Championships 2018 held at Tampere, Finland clocking at 51.46 seconds. * Hima Das is the first Indian sprinter to win a gold medal at an international track event. * At the 2018 Asian Games, Das won the silver medal in the 400 meters clocking in 50.79s and won a gold medal in the 4×400 m mixed relay, which was held for the first time at Asian Game. and also won the women's 4 × 400 meters relay along with M. R. Poovamma, Sarita Gayakwad and V. K. Vismaya clocking 3:28.72. * In September 2018, The Indian arm of German sports brand Adidas announced the appointment of Hima Das as its new brand ambassador. * On 25 September 2018 Das was conferred with Arjuna Award by the President of India. and On 14 November 2018 Das was appointed as the India's first ever youth ambassador of UNICEF-India. and Das was also appointed as the Assam’s brand ambassador for sports by the Government of Assam. * Das completed 12th grade exam from Assam Higher Secondary Education Council in May 2019. * Das grabbed 5 gold medals in a month - July 2019 by participating sports outside India.
